What is the local currency, and should I bring cash?Where we will be staying at an all inclusive resort, the only additional money you will need to bring is as follows: - Tipping money for resort staff (this is optional, but in our experience tipping the resort staff is greatly appreciated) . So we recommend taking out some USD cash (especially small bills if possible). - Purchasing souvenirs or essentials at the on-site shops. In our experience most of these stores do take credit cards , however the smaller vendors at the artisan fair may only take cash. If you plan to purchase souvenirs bring USD cash for this. -Purchasing a tour or off Resort excursion, the Air Canada representative will be in the lobby daily and you can purchase these using your credit card. While off resort, if you are in the Tulum Hotel Zone (near Tulum Beach) or in touristy areas they will take Credit Card and/or USD Cash - Renting a car , you can do this from the Resort and pay with Credit Card. - Hiring a driver or getting a Taxi, the Resort front desk staff can assist you with this. You may need to pay your driver in cash. If you plan on going off the resort through this form of transportation budget accordingly and bring additional USD cash. - Additional purchase through the Resort (i.e. Scuba Diving, Resort Provided Boat Tour, etc.) , these are charged to room and then you can pay with Credit Card upon check out.
